Thanks be to God

God still has His way in the storm! Typhoon Morakot paid us a little visit here in Taiwan and overstayed his welcome. (I learned that Morakot is the Thai word for 'Emerald.' It should have been called something like, "Destructive Dan" or "Hazardous Harry" or even "Evil Ezmeralda" but not the name of a beautiful stone.)

God really kept His hand on us and none of the church people lost their lives! Of course, several were affected by the flooding, in one way or another. Many lost possessions and others were inconvenienced by inability to travel. Traveling is not a problem and the cleaning up has been going on for a couple of days now. However, even after the cleaning is over, there will still be many fingerprints of Morakot seen around here for a while. The prices of produce is predicted to sky-rocket, the mourning process of loved ones is never easy and the loss of homes, furniture, mementos, etc will be felt for a long time yet to come.

Presently, there are several places in the south that do not have water. This causes a great problem as this puts a hold on using bathrooms, showering, washing hands, business' ability to be open (particularly restaurants and drink stands, this also compounding issues of making money for the workers, as well as issues for those going to buy food and drinks). Today, our university canceled school, due to our lack of water however, tomorrow we will be back in classes, as far as I know.

While I am being affected by the storm, it is only in a mild way. I am doing just fine, praise the Lord. There are so many far worse off than I am ... it is truly tragic. My heart goes out to them ... wishing there were a way to reverse some of the harsh results of Morakot.

Please continue to join with us in prayer for the country of Taiwan, particularly the southern region. Let us hope that this terrible situation can be turned into something good and that the precious hearts of the people will be open to hear the gospel. Jesus is the only One who can offer them hope in a time like this.

Solemnly yours,
K
